Case Study: A 6-Pyeong Spare Room in Gangnam
Client: Young professional, first rig purchase Goal: Run a 0.05 TH/s air-cooled unit in a 6-pyeong spare room with one small window Challenge: Building management prohibits external ducting; summer ambient temperatures reach 30°C
Young contacted us after nearly buying a 0.08 TH/s model advertised as “apartment-friendly.” Our bench data showed that unit drew 420 W and produced 62 dB at one metre — acceptable for noise, but the heat output would push the room past 35°C without constant ventilation.
We recommended a 0.05 TH/s model drawing 310 W instead. The hash rate was lower, but the room stayed at 28°C with the window cracked and a desk fan pointed at the intake. His monthly KEPCO increase was ₩52,000 rather than the ₩78,000 the larger unit would have cost.
Three months later, he reported stable operation and no complaints from neighbours about fan noise. He later booked a power cost report when considering a second unit — we advised against it given the room’s heat ceiling.
